The word “form” is defined as “the shape and structure of something as distinguished from its material” but also “a body (as of a person) especially in its external appearance or as distinguished from the face.” “Function” is defined as “the action for which a person or thing is specially fitted or used or for which a thing exists.” Each of the artists in the  show play with these terms in their practice.

Carolyn Irvin is best known for her collage art pieces which contain weapon imagery alongside strong female entities. She sees these as empowering while also touching on the sensitive subject of gun control. “Why shouldn’t women be able to protect themselves with a firearm if all the proper training has been executed?”

Ellen Jong’s practice is rooted in conceptual interventions and autobiographical themes to discuss issues that have to do with identity, form and language. Her art is characterized by her materials of literal and symbolic constructs often using methods/tools/objects of the vernacular to develop a syntax that is driven by a personal narrative. Originally a student in psychology, she continues her studies in human behavior, order/disorder and desire through her experimental and process driven art practice. She is known to use the body, text, neon and performative elements to engage with her audience, informing contemporary human, specifically female, issues and expressions.

The aprons of artist Emma Berg came out of a need to be loud regarding the fight for women's rights balanced with desire for a meditative outlet; to take the anger I'm feeling towards the current administration and do anything...as it can feel paralyzing at times. Simultaneously, the aprons are a way to challenge her own sense of comfort, forcing her to be bold in her statements and respond to uninformed responses on the topic with conviction. Creating an embellished uterus / fallopian tubes / ovaries via sequins, beads, and crystals on hand sewn silk organza aprons is a way to celebrate, take ownership of the imagery, force conversation, and give nod to the women of the past via "craft", while providing a nice fuck you to the antiquated views of what a women can and should be and do.

Katrina Majkut (My’kut) is dedicated to understanding how social traditions affect civil rights. Majkut is listed as one of four international artists starting a new chapter in feminist art by Mic Media. Majkut exhibits her cross-stitched artwork nationally, often at U.S. colleges, where she constructively engages with students about politics, sex education, reproductive rights, social practices and art as activism.

Yuan Tang is a New York based Chinese multidisciplinary artist who moves freely within photography, video, installation, and print. In her work for this show, ants are chosen as a symbol because they are intense, impatient, slender and tiny but can bear the objects much heavier than their weight. In modern society, we are under pressure everywhere that represented by the ants. An unbalanced social life and career results in narrower vision, sealed knowledge, and self-centered worldview. The ants are like the negative mood: intangibly overloaded, and silently entering into the bodies of the urbanite. The birth of this kind of subconsciousness and its associated psychological issues has created deep mental problems.
